Some Guidance on Prices

Garden Design

Our initial consultation (about one hour) costs £30, and we will discuss ideas and possible design solutions for your garden, as well as giving you a price for a design. This fee is waived if you commission a design.

The cost of a design depends on the size and complexity of the garden. For a small garden, a typical design service starts at £300. This would include:

    |     a complete survey and site analysis.
    |     initial concepts and sketches, discussed and modified with you.
    |     a large coloured master-plan, typically on a scale of 1:50.
    |     advice on the choice of materials.

Planting

Choosing and laying out plants is a skilled task, combining a knowledge of individual plants’ needs, ultimate size and seasonal performance as well as a designer’s eye for effect. We are happy to give you a price for supplying and planting any area as long as the soil is already properly prepared by yourselves or your contractor.

Planting typically costs between £15 to £25 per square metre depending on the type and size of plants used.

Many clients find that having their garden planted by us costs little more than buying the plants from their local garden centre. More importantly, plants will thrive because they have been selected to suit the situation.

Construction

We no longer build gardens ourselves, but we can put you in touch with contractors whom we have found reliable, conscientious and trustworthy in the past.

We also offer a Project Monitoring service if you would like us to liaise with contractors on your behalf. There is a standard fee for this service - £60 for the first hour (or part thereof) and £30 per hour afterwards for each site visit.

Contractors' Prices

Having previously been contractors ourselves, we have some idea of the costs involved. Obviously prices for construction can vary enormously, but the following is a very rough guide (figures exclude VAT for VAT registered contractors):

{      Paving costs depend on the area and the quality of materials chosen, but £60 - £100 per square metre is typical for a good quality surface.

{      A simple water feature could cost less than £500, whereas a formal pool with a fountain and filtration may cost over £3000 to construct.

{      Timber arbours and small pergolas typically cost from £300 upwards, depending on the size of the structure.

We cannot guarantee any of the figures suggested here. You should always obtain quotations or estimates for any work that you want carried out.
